EHSA to Present "Virtual" Assembly on School and 200th Anniversary

All Alumni and EHS family invited to Zoom meeting - October 28, 2020 - 6:55 pm to 8:15 pm

Boston, MA Oct. 14, 2020 -- The English High School, the oldest public high school in America, will be celebrating its 200th anniversary in the fall of 2021. The English High School Alumni Association is planning a weekend of events to celebrate the anniversary beginning Friday October 2, 2021.


“The 200th Planning Committee, is focused on ways to increase awareness about the storied history of America’s oldest public high school”, said Michael Thomas, President of the English High Alumni Association. “Our purposes, are to increase participation of alumnus for this Gala event and to get more of EHS graduates involved with our on-going effort to help support the school’s tradition of producing “Men & Women of Honor and Achievement.” Famous English High School alumni include: J.P. Morgan, Charles Hayden, Global Business Leaders; Leonard Nimoy, Dr. Spock from Star Trek; Lt. Col. Enoch Woodhouse II, Tuskegee Airman; Robert Prince, Former GM of MBTA; Bruce Bolling, Boston City Councilor; Owen Wells, NBA Player; Herb Chambers, self-made Auto Magnate; Jordan Knight, New Kids On The Block fame; Walter Prince, One of 100 most influential lawyers of color in Boston; Ken Clark, NFL Veteran; Andrew Boch, Founder of Boch Motors; Harry Kraft, Father of Robert Kraft; Gen. Mathew Ridgeway, Supreme Allied Commander Europe; Gen. Paul X Kelly, U. S. Marine Commandant; Louis Sullivan, Father of Skyscrapers; and Samuel Pierpont Langley, American Engineer. “These are just a few of our alumni who made outstanding contributions in their individual endeavors,” said Thomas. Just as important, the school has always been an educational beacon of hope and a stepping-stone for the “working class” population in the Greater Boston Community.


The October 28, 2020 Agenda will include a host of speakers representing alumni from the 1940’s through the present and will highlight the EHS Career Pathways videos.

“The Alumni Committee is excited about creating an informative event, not only for Boston, but for the whole country,” Thomas added.


All EHS alumni, friends and family are invited to join us on our virtual presentation on October 28, 2020 (Zoom Meeting 6:55 PM – 8:15 PM), to hear more about the high school and the transitions it has gone through over the years from 1821 to the present. The English High School Association (EHSA) was formed in 1853 to honor the history, pride and traditions of the English High School by continuing a legacy that supports and inspires students in their educational pursuits and celebrates distinguished alumni. Then as in now the EHSA is committed to providing the English High students of today with quality academic instruction and college scholarship aid. The English High School, America’s first public high school was founded January 15, 1821 by the School Committee at a town meeting held in Boston’s historic Faneuil Hall. In its nearly 200 years the school has produced alumni who have succeeded on international, national and local stages. The EHSA plans a 200th anniversary celebration in 2021.
